[ QUIZ ]

Do you spend money more
like a millennial or a boomer?

An interactive quiz for The Washington Post’s Business desk. The Quiz invites readers to discover how their spending habits compare with different generations, from Gen Z to boomers. The experience blends data insights with playful interactivity to reveal how age, priorities, and economic conditions shape financial choices today.

I art directed the piece, crafting the visual concept and guiding its aesthetic execution from concept through publication.

I collaborated with graphics designer Luis Melgar to integrate the illustrations into the quiz’s development, ensuring visual consistency and seamless execution from Figma mockups to the final live version.

I worked closely with writers to identify each generation’s defining visual cues, then translated them into photo-illustrated character cards by modifying dollar bills of increasing denominations to represent the quiz’s age groups. Each illustration aligned with The Post’s established palette and brand system.

I produced 13 total illustrations, including nine spot visuals accompanying quiz questions, that reinforced the narrative and deepened engagement. I then created a comprehensive Figma mockup of the piece to present to the team and review with the developer ahead of build.

I collaborated with Luis Melgar to refine and develop the initial Figma mockups for the questions and responses into the final published piece. Through iterative revisions, we scaled back the original design into a polished product that prioritized clarity and user experience.

Finally, I worked with Luis and the publishing team to finalize the edit and design the result cards for quiz takers, establishing a clear hierarchy between the data and outcomes to create compelling, socially shareable assets.
