Your winter bucket list
An illustrated feature for The Washington Post’s Weekend section presenting a curated winter bucket list of activities across D.C., Md., and Va. The piece invites readers to explore seasonal experiences through a cohesive and playful visual system.
I art directed the project and created ten custom spot illustrations, one for each featured activity. Each was framed to reflect both the spirit of the experience and its numerical placement on the list, reinforcing hierarchy while adding personality to the composition.
I also led the print art direction, ensuring the illustrations maintained clarity and quality from digital conception through print testing and final production.
The illustrations were grounded on
The Washington Post’s brand guidelines
and color palette, which I adapted
for value and depth while keeping
them recognizable.
Prior to developing the page I sketched
and story boarded each of the spot illos on the list and worked with my design editor
to refine final touches.
Final static versions.
After illustrations were finalized I
worked alongside developed the story and began placing them on a central layout.
Print adaptation for the story
After the digital version was finalized, I adapt the illustrations for print, ensuring each maintained its visual quality and translated seamlessly across formats.
